Default windows has blocked this software because it can't verify the publisher

Hi Guys, here is one for you. Client has a DVR Webcam connected at his house. To get to it all you have to is to type in his IP address which is http://198.145.196.113/. It will then ask you to install an active X. I tried this with my computer and I was able to have it install after adding the site to my trusted sites under internet explorer options. When I try it on his work computer I get an error message at the very end: windows has blocked this software because it can't verify the publisher. I tried Google newsgroups and no go. Lots of people with the same problem but no answer. Any Ideas?

You could be running into several different problems. For example he could be blocked via a group policy or his security settings in his browser may be set too high. What browser/version is he using?

Danny,
In IE open “Tools” then “Internet Options.” Click on the “Security” tab then click on the “Custom level” button. Under this window scroll down a little to the “ActiveX controls and plug-ins.” Under that topic look for “Download unsigned ActiveX controls.” Change it from the “Disable (recommended)” option to “Prompt.” Now try to access the site again and you should be prompted to install the ActiveX control.

The caveat to this is that there are obvious security risks in making this change.

Let us know if it works.

Talking Follow up

Hi everyone, thank you for all your suggestions. I ended up contacting the DVR manufacturer and emailed me an firmware upgrade for the DVR unit.

Default Thanks Robi!

I have a very similar setup - security DVR trying to work through IE. Robi, your solution was what finally worked for me. I also had to add the address to Trusted Sites.

THANKS!!!
Dave
